| Seeking
Herb to Save Husband |
| This is an act from a famous traditional
drama, Legend of the White Snake. The White Snake, Beh Soh-Chin, drank
realgar wine during the Dragon Boat Festival. The effect of the realgar
forced her to expose her true form, a white snake, which shocked her
husband into unconsciousness. To save her husband from dying, she
went to the God of Longevity's sacred mountain to seek a legendary
herb. However, the god disapproved of the marriage between a snake
and a man. Would the god let her leave safely? Would she be able to
save her husband? |

| Taiwanese Music Concert |
Deities Celebrating New Year |
| Lan-Yang Company orchestra is the first of its kind
in the Taiwanese history to have attributed a whole concert to the
traditional music in the prestigious Taiwan National Concert Hall
in Taipei and the Taipei Social Education Hall. For the performance
in the Twin Cities, the orchestra has carefully strung and compiled
Taiwanese folk songs, popular songs and music, including "Expecting
the Spring Breeze," "Jasmine Flowers in June," and
Tohuei Crossing the River." The band also performed such American
folk songs as "Yankee Doodles." |
On the New Year Day of 2002, Mah Tsoh, the Holy Mother in Heaven,
suddenly saw an auspicious light shining brightly in Taiwan area.
She sent her messengers, Chen Li Gan and Sun Hong Nih, to invite other
deities to go to Taiwan to help celebrate. Deities of Happiness, Wealth
and Longevity as well as the famous Eight Deities of Hong Lai all
went along, bearing blessings and nice gifts. The whole Taiwan area
was filled with heavenly music and auspicious aura. Deities and mortals
celebrated New Year together happily. (canceled) |
Beating
Deity Seng Hong
In order to avoid being drafted by the emperor, three civilians fled
home and hid in a Seng Hong temple. To their great dismay, the drafting
officers also came to the temple to wait out the heavy snow. In face
of this dire situation, they decided to dress up as the deity Seng
Hong, his judge and the imp to fool the officers. Will this work?
Can they be spared?
