About the Taiwanese Hakka Chorus
The Taiwanese Hakka Chorus was founded by Chin-Ming Lu (first from left, below) and Yun-Yu Chiang (not shown) in October 1991 to promote and preserve traditional Hakka music culture. At the invitation of TAAMN to help celebrate the Taiwanese American Heritage Week, the 9-member chorus arrived in the Twin Cities on May 19. As part of its 2004 North America tour, this was the Chorus' first visit to Minnesota. Jenn-Feng Yan (second from right, bottom picture), vice president of TAAMN, hosted a welcome dinner for the group on May 20 at the Ho Ho Gourmet Restaurant. The next day, the chorus presented a wonderful show attended by more than 100 people. The show lasted for nearly two hours. The chorus performed a variety of folk songs in Hakka, Ho-Lo, Mandarin, and aboriginal languages. Members of the chorus were (from left to right): Chin-Ming Lu, Shu-Chi Chen, Hui-Shiung Lai, Yu-Hui Wu, Hsien-Chih Chen, Yueh-Chun Peng, Ting-Hua Yeh, Yu-Shin Wan, and Yi-Fan Lee.
