In addition to
traditional lion dance, red envelope give-away, riddle guessing, we
have a great program showcasing songs and dances from different eras in
Taiwan.
Pre-registered members (form mailed by the end of Jan 16) will be
entered into door-prize drawing. Many great prizes are
waiting! Please see attached form for dinner fee and
membership fee.
We
have some beautiful Taiwan Fruits Calendars to give away at the
party (see picture below, gift from OCAC, Oversea Compatriot
Affairs Commission). Quantity is limited, first come first
served.

TAAMN Youth Awards
Dear Friends of TAAMN,
Youths whose parents or guardians are TAAMN
members are encouraged to apply for 2012 Youth Awards. There are
3 categories: (a) High School Senior Award, (b) Special Talent Award,
and (c) Community Service Award. Each award is $200. Winners will
be selected by Taiwanese Foundation Committee and awards will be
presented at Jan 21st.? TAAMN/TSA Lunar New Year Party.

MN Taiwanese Directory Cover Design Contest
The event is open to public, anyone can
participate. No age limitation.
Awards are: (1) 1st Place: $100 (b) 2nd Place:
$50, (c) 3rd Place: $20. Winners will be selected by TAAMN staff
members and awards will be presented at TAAMN/TSA Lunar New Year Party
on Jan 21.
Please follow these guidelines:
* Size and Format: 5.5in by 8.5in, portrait
* Color: black on white (We will choose background color for the
cover.)
* Content: Traditionally our cover designs have been related to zodiac
signs of the lunar years. So it is recommended that your design
includes a Dragon and a sketch of Taiwan map. The
design should also include the following titles/sutitles: 2012 Year of
the Dragon, Minnesota Taiwanese

TAAMN 2012 Scholarship Award Winner announcement
TAAMN (Taiwanese Association of America Minnesota Chapter) is pleased to
announce the winner of 2012 TAAMN Li-Huey Lai Memorial Scholarship.
The winner is Mr. Chih-Chien Huang, 黃志堅, a Ph.D student major in Conservation Biology, at
the University
of Minnesota,
Twin Cities. The scholarship carries a $1,500 cash award and a
certificate.
The award will be presented to the winner at
the TAAMN New Year Party in January, 2012.

明州台灣同鄉會 (Taiwanese Association of America Minnesota Chapter,
TAAMN),為鼓勵目
前在明尼蘇達州地區就讀的台灣學生
(包括大學部及研究所的學生),特設立二項獎學金。每項獎學金,金額$1,500,獎狀一張。
1.賴張麗惠紀念獎學金
獎學金說明:賴張麗惠紀念獎學金的目的在紀念賴張麗惠的一生。賴張麗惠深具愛心,對雙城台美人社區的貢獻卓越。麗惠是台灣台北人,在明州居住期間,致力於提倡台灣及其文化。為紀念她的奉獻精神,這項獎學金提供目前在明尼蘇達大學雙城校區就讀的台灣留學生財務支助,金額$1,500,獎狀一張。
2. 李陳淑慈獎學金:
獎學金說明:李陳淑慈,台灣羅東人,居住雙城四十多年,事業有成,一生熱愛台灣,為鼓勵目前在明尼蘇達州地區就讀的台灣大學生,設立此獎學金,金額$1,500,獎狀一張。
申請資格:獎學金以來自台灣的大學部和研究所的留學生為對象,學生必須沒有接受台灣政府或明州大學提供的全額財務支助,包括獎學金、教學和研究助學金。
在明尼蘇達州地區就讀的台灣大學生及研究生皆可申請李陳淑慈獎學金。但申請賴張麗惠紀念獎學金的限於明州大學雙城校區註冊的全職學生。獎學金的設立是為協助得獎人能適時畢業。過去未得獎者將優先考慮。
申請:申請人必須繳交下列文件各一份:1)填寫的申請表格,2)正式的成績單,3)本學期的註冊証明,4)一封由系上指導教授証明申請人並未接受系方提供的全額獎學金或助學金,5)以英文書寫的個人聲明,包括背景、財務須要、長期目標與成就。
申請表格刊登在明州台灣同鄉會的網站(www.taamn.org),明大台灣同學會的網站 ( www.tc.umn.edu/~tsa)。
審核與選擇:獎學金委員會由以下成員組成:黃政哲、胡維碩、賴瑞宏、盧盈裕、
曾啟明、 游本中、和台灣同鄉會會長顏振鋒。審核與選擇依據以下標準:財務需要、全部成績、個人聲明的優點、指導教授的推薦。 課程按時進展的申請人將優先考慮。
截止日期:申請必須在11月1日 前提出,以郵戳為憑。得獎人在12月1日宣佈,同時刊登在明州台灣同鄉會網站和明大台灣同學會網站。獎學金將在2月間舉行的明州台灣同鄉會新年晚會頒發,得獎人必須出席領獎。

Scholarships
TAAMN ( Taiwanese Association of America Minnesota
Chapter ) has established two scholarships to provide
financial assistance to students from Taiwan
who are studying at the Universities in the state of Minnesota. Each scholarship provides
a $1,500 cash award and a certificate.
1. Li-Huey Lai Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Description: The purpose of Li-Huey Lai Memorial
Scholarship is to commemorate the life of Li-Huey Lai, a compassionate
woman who made significant contribution to the Taiwanese American
community in the Twin Cities. A native of Taipei,
Taiwan, Li-Huey
devoted her life to the promotion of Taiwan
and its culture in Minnesota.
In memory of her dedication, the scholarship provides need-based
financial assistance to students from Taiwan who are studying at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. The scholarship
carries a $1,500 cash award and a certificate.
2. Suji Lee Scholarship
Scholarship Description: A native of Luodong, Taiwan,
Suji Lee has lived in the Twin Cities for more than forty years. A
successful business woman who has strong love of Taiwan, she established the scholarship
to provide financial assistance to students from Taiwan who are studying at the
universities in the state of Minnesota. The scholarship
carries a $1,500 cash award and a certificate.
Eligibility: The scholarships
are open to both undergraduate and graduate students from Taiwan who currently are not receiving
full financial aids, including fellowship, teaching and research
assistantship, either from the Taiwan government or from
the Universities. Students who are studying at the universities in the state of
Minnesota ?are encouraged to apply Suji Lee
Scholarship. For Li-Huey Lai Memorial Scholarship, the applicant must
be a
full-time student registered at the University of Minnesota-Twin
Cities. The awards are intended to help the
recipients make timely progress toward graduation.
Application: The applicant
should submit one copy of the following documents: 1) Completed
application form, 2) Official transcript, 3) Proof of registration for
the academic year, 4) A letter of recommendation from the faculty
adviser. The letter should indicates that the applicant not receiving
any fellowship, scholarship or assistantship from the department, and 5)
One page personal statement
in English. The statement should include information about the
applicant’s background, financial need, long-term goals, and
achievements.
The

of Minnesota Taiwan Student Association
website (www.tc.umn.edu/~tsa).
Review and Selection: The
scholarship committee is consisted of the following members:?
Cheng-Cher Huang, Wei-Shou Hu,
Juey Hong Lai, Ying-Yuh Lu, Chi-Ming Tseng, ?
Pen-Chung
Yew, and the president of TAAMN Jennfeng Yan.? The review and selection
will be based on the following criteria: financial need, overall
academic record, and recommendation from the faculty adviser.?
Preference will be given to the applicant who is making timely progress
toward graduation.
Deadline: The application must
be post-marked on or before November
1, 2011.? The recipients will be announced on December 1, 2011 and posted on
the TAAMN website and TSA website.? The awards will be presented at the
annual New Year Party of TAAMN held in February, 2012.? The recipients
must be present to receive the scholarship.?

明州台灣同鄉會/明大台灣同學會 中秋迎新 (9/24 Saturday)
Dear Friends of TAAMN and TSA,
It has been our tradition in Minnesota to
celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival and welcome new friends when new
school year begins. This year the Mid-Autumn Festival is a
little earlier (Sept 12 on solar calendar). Sept 24
(Saturday) is the date we have reserved for the celebration..
TAAMN (Taiwanese
Association of America - Minnesota Chapter) and TSA
(Taiwan Student Association) will have a joint welcome party on Sept 24 (Sat)
at Coffman Memorial Union,
Mississippi Room (U of M, Minneapolis
Campus). Social hour begins at 5pm, dinner starts at
6pm. There will be introduction of newcomers, TAAMN
and TSA staff members,
community groups and important events, and entertainment after
dinner.
Note that Washington Ave. in front of Coffman
Union is closed due to light-rail
construction. It is best to access from East River Parkway and
park at East River Parkway Garage. (See link

Many new students and fellow
Taiwanese have arrived from Taiwan and other states in
the past couple weeks and months. Please come to the party and
meet new friends. All newcomers will get free dinner. They only
have to pay 2011-2012 TAAMN or TSA
membership fee. So encourage all new friends to come. Please
use the attached form (in Word file or PDF
file) to register by September 19. U of M students should
register with TSA directly.
To celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, we
will have fresh moon cake for everyone at the party.
To help new students
with furniture, appliances and other house items, TAAMN

2011 年夏日野餐花絮 Summer Picnic
2011年夏日野餐已於5/28 Saturday 在風光明媚的Lake Harriet舉辦.
這次活動中, 同鄉會以新的活動內容與同鄉們共享明州夏日湖畔風光.
活動的高潮開始於十點. 此時Herbert (戶外康樂), Jack 已將場地整理部置就緒.
一幅大大的招牌 “GO,
TAIWAN, GO” 高懸在亭樑上.
不怕你找不到台灣人的足跡.
第二代的年輕小伙子: Curtis, Eric,and
Peter也已把Grill的炭火升到最高點了.三人
都撩起袖子, 在火爐旁磨拳擦掌一番. 同鄉會所雇的entertainment: clown 也開始為大人小孩
逗趣.? BBQ 在三位年輕小伙子的精心料理之下, 準時於11:30 上桌.
